Crowns
Your dentist may use dental crowns (also known as “dental caps”) to protect and restore teeth that are infected, weakened or heavily filled.
They can also be used as a cosmetic solution to enhance the appearance of a restored tooth, or damaged or heavily / root filled teeth.
Crown materials
Permanent crowns are made from tooth-coloured porcelain or from a non-precious metal.
Dental adhesive cement is used to affix the crown onto the remaining affected tooth structure. A metal sub-structure can be used to add strength and extend the longevity of the crown.
For patients preferring a non-metal base, we offer a range of crown materials including Emax porcelain crowns or Zirconia crowns.
Dental Implants
What are dental implants?
Dental implants are used to replace loose and missing teeth. They can be used to replace a single tooth, multiple teeth or full upper or lower arches of teeth.
The implants themselves are titanium screws that are surgically placed into the jawbone to replace your natural tooth’s root, or multiple roots.
A single crown, or full bridge of artificial teeth, is then fixed onto the implants.
Unlike dentures, they do not have to be removed for cleaning.

Who are dental implants for?

Dental Bridges
Dental bridges are a restorative dental treatment where a “bridge” of artificial teeth is used to fill gaps left by one or more missing teeth.
The bridge is supported by the adjacent teeth, whether natural teeth or dental implants.
The bridge of artificial teeth can then remain permanently in place and restore your smile.
Dental bridges can last many years if well cared for.
As with natural teeth, they can weaken over time due to wear and tear so restoration treatment may eventually be needed.
Types of dental bridges
Types of dental bridges include:
• Maryland bridges are held in place by a metal wing or wings. They require little supporting tooth structure from the adjacent teeth.
• Cantilever bridges requires only one adjacent tooth to be bonded to, or traditional bridges.
Your dentist will talk to you about the best option for you.
The new teeth can be colour-matched to complement existing teeth and to look natural.
Dentures
Dentures, or false teeth, are removable artificial teeth that replace loose or missing natural teeth and surrounding gums.
Dentures can be used to replace full sets of teeth (complete removable denture) or single / multiple teeth (removable partial denture).
They are made to fit comfortably and snugly over the gum, giving the teeth and gums a natural-looking appearance. Your dentist will show you how to clean and care for them.
What are dentures made of?
Dentures can be made from acrylic, a flexible plastic called Valplast, or chrome cobalt (metal-based with added acrylic).
Root Canal/Endodontic Treatment
Endodontic treatment, also known as root canal therapy or root canal treatment, is a procedure used in restorative dentistry to save a tooth that has infection or deep decay .
The root canal procedure is usually used when the infected tooth will be lost if left untreated.
Do I need a root canal treatment?
Symptoms that indicate you may need root canal treatment include severe pain or throbbing pain, you feel sensitive when you drink hot drinks or cold liquids, or avoid chewing in the affected area.
Your dentist will carefully assess you and confirm if you are likely to need root canal treatment, and discuss your options with you.
Root canal alternatives include extraction.
What do root canal treatments involve?
First your dentist will gently apply local anesthetic. They then remove nerves and any infected pulp from the diseased tooth.
They clean the pulp chamber from the treated tooth and seal it with a temporary filling.
A permanent filling or permanent crown is placed once the root canal treatment is complete.
This helps to prevent infections from reoccurring and the formation of abscesses in the surrounding teeth, roots and gums – all of which can be very painful.
Endodontic treated teeth are restored to full health.

Root canal treatment usually requires two or more long-length appointments.
